In a surprise move, Android One device have made its way in UK. Indian smartphone manufacturer Karbonn has started selling their Android One-powered Sparkle V handset on Amazon. The Sparkle V launched yesterday on Amazon today for £129.99, and Friday it’ll be going for £99.99 as part of the Black Friday promotion. Alongside the Sparkle V, three other Karbonn phones were launched in the UK yesterday: the Titanium S6, the A19 and the A5S.
Karbonn Sparkle V comes with a 4.5 inch display along with the resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. The device is powered by 1.3 GHz quad-core processor along with the Mali 400 GPU. This device comes with the 1GB RAM, 4GB internal memory which can be expanded up to 32GB with the help of external SD card slot.
On camera front Sparkle V has a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP of front facing camera. Long list of connectivity options includes 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, FM Radio, 3.5mm headset jack, etc. This device comes with the battery of 1700Mah, along with the Dual Sim card slot.
Android One is an important initiative for Google, which aims to reach out to a large number of first-time Internet-enabled phone users. Its success in India will encourage the company to extensively focus on the initiative in other emerging countries as well.
Google will start rolling out an update for the Android One smartphones sometime in January. Speaking to the India Today, Spice’s CEO Prashant Bindal said that they are planning to provide Lollipop in our Android One devices around January 2015 and the update will be available for all Dream Uno users in India. The update may come even sooner as an unnamed source inside Google reportedly told India Today that it could land as early as mid-December.
According to the reports, the retailers like Croma, Future Group, Planet M Retail, Next Retail, Sangeetha Mobiles, Reliance Retail and Lot Mobiles had refused to sell Google’s Android One handsets in India. The three Android One handsets are priced in the range of Rs 5,885 and Rs 6,499. These handsets were developed by three Indian vendors and were launched through online retailers Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal.
